Our Process

“Our goal is for you to feel like family.” –James

Your first visit will give you the opportunity to meet our staff and see our facility. Getting to know Prosthetic Solutions as a whole is a very important part of the initial visit; we consider the first visit to be the beginning of a life-long relationship and want our patients to feel comfortable from the start. The office staff will assist you in taking care of your administrative needs; you should feel free to ask any questions that you may have, as we know this is probably an unfamiliar experience for you. Please see our 10 things to remember for your appointment

The prosthetic fitting process will span a minimum 3 weeks. The initial visit will begin with a thorough evaluation of both the residual limb and of the current prosthesis, if applicable; please expect to spend at least 2 hours with us. Upper extremity patients may have their manual dexterity evaluated and upper body strength tested, whereas lower extremity patients will have their body alignment and range of motion checked. We will also conduct a thorough gait analysis, and will most likely finish with initial measurement or casting. We will make a mold of your residual limb either with plaster or a computer scanner.

The second visit is usually scheduled for about one week later. It will consist of a diagnostic socket fitting, where we will be checking measurements to ensure a “perfect fit.” This step could take one or two of these appointments, depending on your needs. This step requires a significant amount of attention, as it will ensure success for you in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead. Once we have achieved your “perfect fit,” we will order components and begin building your new prosthesis.

We will teach you all you need to know about your prosthesis in these first few weeks of fitting appointments. When you receive your prosthesis, we will give you easy to understand instructions and be by your side every step of the way!
